The Man Behind the Brand – Paul Odenigbo
The man known publicly as Paul Feng was born as Paul Odenigbo in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. While much of his early childhood remains undocumented, he revealed in a personal interview with a popular Ebonyi content creator known as Ebonyi Son that he had his junior secondary education at All Saints Secondary School, Effium.
“I left home when I was small. I just sat for my junior WAEC at All Saints Secondary School, Effium. That was around 2006,” he recounted.
According to Paul, his journey truly began when he was taken to Anambra State by his wealthy uncle. While there, he completed his senior secondary education. However, his desire to pursue further education created friction between him and his uncle.
“I told my uncle that I wanted to go to school and he refused. He insisted that I should not talk about school, but I also insisted. He sent me packing. I packed my bag and left his house carrying it on the head like a man sent out from a village.”
With nowhere else to turn, he contacted a familiar driver who used to be their supplier. The driver, who transported plantains from Warri to Onitsha, offered Paul an opportunity to work as his bus conductor.
“He later arrived and picked me up; that was how I became his bus conductor. He was into goods delivery. I would go to the forest with him, load goods, and when we reached our destination, I helped him offload.”
It was during this period of hardship that Paul’s desire for education remained unshaken. He informed the driver about his plans to continue with university admission, and the man gave him full support.
“The Nigeria Defence Academy and Nnamdi Azikiwe University had finished their intake exams. I decided to enroll into Federal Polytechnic, Oko. I had 250 in my 2012 UTME and finally got admitted.”
Education and Entrepreneurship
While studying Business Administration at Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Paul balanced academics with hard work. He engaged in small-scale services such as phone charging using a self-constructed charging board. He also enrolled in the Chinese Language Program at the school’s Confucius Institute, showcasing his zeal to learn and diversify his skills.
“I was the course representative, too, so I had a lot of busy schedules. I also constructed charging boards where I used to charge phones and get paid. By then, I didn’t have a personal brand. I had the opportunity to serve in one of the biggest cafés at Oko where I bought and sold other people’s brands.”
“One day, I met the Chinese people and discussed business with them. They advised me on how to go about it.”
After graduation, Paul relocated to Lagos and started supplying mobile phone accessories under existing brands. But his entrepreneurial vision was clear: he wanted to build a brand of his own.
“It was not my brand until one day I asked if they can print my brand name on the products. I was asked which brand name to go by, and I chose ‘Paul Feng’ Paul being my first name and ‘Feng’ my Chinese name.”
His first branded product was a charging cable. The success of that product marked the beginning of the Paul Feng legacy.
“The product sold so well, and I decided to add many other products.”
Today, the Paul Feng brand offers a wide range of products, including charging cables, headsets, power banks, phone chargers, and flash drives known for their durability and performance.
Global Education and Expansion
In 2020, Paul was awarded a scholarship for an MBA program in China, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he was unable to travel. Not one to give up, he secured another scholarship at Bournemouth University in the UK, where he obtained a Master’s in Business Law and Finance.
“When I came back, I contacted my Chinese school and they accepted me. I was almost finishing my studies, but I still have intentions of visiting China to explore more.”
Eventually, Paul made his way to China, where he deepened his knowledge of product manufacturing.
“When I got to China, I had the opportunity to visit the factories and monitor the product production and ensured that the quality I want was met.”
He also recently completed an MBA from Tai Yuan University of Technology in China, following a convocation held in June 2025.
