The Executive Governor of Ebonyi State His Excellency, Gov. Francis Nwifuru has celebrated his two-year anniversary in office by highlighting significant achievements across infrastructure, education, health, agriculture, security, and human empowerment.
For the past few months, Governor Francis has been the cynosure of all eyes who stole the show among the best performing Governors in the south East if not in Nigeria entirely.
The Ebonyi State law graduate who also served as the Speaker Ebonyi State House of Assembly started his administration with massive developmental projects featuring both in manpower developments, youth empowerments, workers’ welfare, massive infrastructure, educational and healthcare facilities provision.
Below are the highlights of few of the many projects awarded by Governor Francis within His second year in office; within many already completed and some nearing completion.
Infrastructure Development
- VANCO Tunnel & Flyovers: First in the South-East, easing urban traffic and boosting aesthetics.
- Over 200km of township roads constructed or rehabilitated.
- Modern drainage systems and solar-powered streetlights across the capital and major towns.
- Rural access roads and bridges constructed to link agricultural communities.
- New Universities: University of ICT (Oferekpe) and University of Aeronautics Engineering (Ezza).
- 43 model secondary schools under construction, each with ICT labs and libraries.
- 1,000+ postgraduate scholarships awarded locally and abroad — the state’s largest ever.
- Free maternal care and essential drugs in public hospitals.
- Upgraded general hospitals, new ambulances, and recruitment of health workers.
- Drug Revolving Fund introduced to ensure consistent medicine supply.
- EBOTRANS buses and the launch of EBOCAB, a safe, app-based taxi scheme.
- Transportation reforms creating jobs and easing mobility.
- Modern farming equipment and inputs distributed to farmers.
- Nkaliki Hatchery revived; Ebonyi Feed Mill and agro-processing hubs underway.
- Youth and women trained in agriculture and agribusiness.
- Major water schemes revived (Oferekpe, Abakaliki Lowlift, Ezillo, and Ivo).
- Improved access to potable water and sanitation in rural and urban areas.
- IJEOMA Security Initiative launched with modern patrol vehicles and equipment.
- Peace restored in crisis-prone areas like Effium and Abaomege.
- 143 duplexes in Centenary City for public servants.
- Homes built for widows and displaced persons across the state.
- Over 5,000 citizens empowered with grants ranging from ₦1m to ₦100m.
- Training and funding for youths, artisans, and small-scale entrepreneurs.
