The outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, has announced the rescue of more than 1,000 kidnap victims during his 18-month tenure, alongside the recovery of weapons and the disruption of bandit networks across North-West Nigeria.
Speaking at his farewell in Sokoto, Ajose highlighted that the achievements were under Sector 2 of Operation Fasan Yamma, allowing displaced residents to return to abandoned communities and farms during the last planting season.

“In 2025 alone, we recovered over 200 weapons, thousands of rounds of ammunition, and rescued more than 1,000 victims,” he said, describing the operations as pivotal in restoring civilian confidence.
Ajose also noted welfare and infrastructure reforms, including renovated barracks, restored waterworks, 24-hour hospital power, free maternal care, and ambulance services, as well as improvements in schools, employment opportunities, and worship centers within the division.
His successor, Major General Bemgha Paul Koughna, praised Ajose for leaving 8 Division as a “shining example” of operational effectiveness. Ajose has now been redeployed to Abuja for his next assignment.
