
Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK), has officially appointed Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie as its new substantive Vice-Chancellor. His appointment takes effect from November 19, 2025, marking the beginning of a single five-year tenure in accordance with university regulations.
The announcement was made through an official press release from the Office of the Head, Information & Public Relations. According to the statement, the Governing Council of the University approved Professor Anyaehie’s appointment following a transparent and merit-based selection process. The appointment was ratified by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Barr. Monsur Kukoyi Olugbenga, on November 16, 2025.
Professor Anyaehie, a distinguished scholar and respected Professor of Physiology and Clinical Measurements, brings decades of academic experience, administrative competence, and research excellence to the role. He is widely recognized for his contributions to medical education and scientific advancement in Nigeria.
He takes over from Professor (Dame) Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, who has been acting as the Vice-Chancellor in the interim. The University acknowledged her commitment and leadership during the transitional period.
The press release, signed by Njelita Louis O., Acting Director of Information & Public Relations, emphasized the University’s confidence in Professor Anyaehie’s ability to elevate UNIZIK’s academic reputation, strengthen research output, and promote institutional development.
