Federal Polytechnic Oko has officially addressed widespread rumors circulating on social media regarding a reported shooting in the institution. In a press statement released on June 20, 2025, the institution clarified that the shooting incident, which occurred on the night of June 19, 2025, did not take place within the Polytechnic’s campus but within the Oko community.

The statement, signed by the Public Relations Officer, Chijioke Ibeziako, dismissed claims that linked the tragic event to the school environment, calling them inaccurate and misleading. According to the release, the incident involved unidentified gunmen who reportedly attacked individuals in the surrounding community, not on the Polytechnic premises.

“The shooting occurred in Oko town, not on Federal Polytechnic Oko’s campus.

The Nigerian Police Force is currently investigating the incident to determine the circumstances and identify those responsible.

The Polytechnic remains calm and secure, with all academic activities continuing uninterrupted. Security measures have been intensified to ensure the safety of students and staff.

The public is urged to avoid spreading unverified or inflammatory information that could incite panic or hinder the ongoing police investigation”
