In the early hours of today, troops of Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled an attempted infiltration by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on the Naval Base at Lake Chad Fish Dam, neutralizing scores of insurgents in the process
According to a statement released via the official Facebook page of the Nigerian Army Headquarters, the coordinated defence operation involved joint efforts by land, maritime, and air components of the military. The terrorists reportedly launched their attack around 2:00 AM, targeting newly acquired swamp bogeys provided by the Borno State Government to aid waterways clearance in the Lake Chad region.
Personnel of the Naval Base Lake Chad, supported by reinforcements from Baga, engaged the attackers in a fierce firefight that lasted over two hours. Despite the intensity of the encounter, the terrorists failed in their objective and were forced to retreat. A large number of the assailants were neutralised, and materials used in the making of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered at the scene.
The Nigerian Army confirmed that a limited breach occurred, resulting in the destruction of an ambulance and two other vehicles. Additionally, several military personnel sustained injuries during the confrontation.
In the aftermath of the attack, air component platforms have been deployed to pursue and neutralize fleeing terrorists along the waterways, with the aim of completely eliminating the threat and preventing future attempts.
The Nigerian military reiterated its commitment to restoring peace and security in the region, while commending the bravery and resilience of its personnel in repelling the assault.
