Renowned author and socio-political commentator, Reno Omokri, has called on Nigerians to actively patronize locally made goods as a means of strengthening the Naira and boosting the country’s economy.
In a social media post, Omokri proudly showcased his full outfit made entirely from Nigerian products and materials, from his beachwear to his accessories, encouraging others to do the same in a bid to “Grow the Naira by buying Naija.”
This is not the first of such post made by the socio-political elite. Reno has always been a strong voice advocating for use of Nigerian made products as a way of strenghtening the naira and boosting Nigerians’s local economy.
“Everything I wear in this photograph, including my beachwear, slippers, walking stick, and corals, is made in Nigeria,” he said.
“When we patronise made in Nigeria, our Naira appreciates in value, which means your personal net worth also grows.”
He further broke down the sources of each item he wore to emphasize the diversity and richness of local craftsmanship:
- Beachwear: Made with Aso Oke from Iseyin
- Design: From Abuja
- Embroidery: From Suleja
- Walking Stick: Crafted in Sapele
- Corals: From Warri
- Slippers: Made in Kano
- Swagger: “From Itsekiri,” he added playfully.
Omokri also extended his advocacy beyond fashion, offering a comprehensive lifestyle blueprint for embracing Nigerian products and services. He encouraged Nigerians to:
- Drive Nigerian-assembled cars like Nord
- Use local telecom networks such as Glo
- Support Nigerian manufacturing giants like Dangote and BUA
- Eat locally produced foods such as Nasco cereals, Nigerian rice, cassava bread, and traditional drinks like zobo and palm wine
- Go on dates at suya spots and homegrown eateries like Tantalisers
- Shop at local markets
- Celebrate Nigerian culture by watching Nollywood movies at Silverbird Cinemas and supporting local football clubs such as Shooting Stars and Kano Pillars
- Wear traditional attires like aso oke, Adire, agbada, Babanriga, and Kafuna textiles
- Stream Nigerian music and support homegrown content creators.
Omokri concluded with a patriotic message urging Nigerians to believe in the country and play an active role in rebuilding its economic strength.
