The Nigerian Army has officially declared a three-day mourning period, from June 25 to June 27, 2025, in honor of 17 gallant soldiers who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty at Kwana Dutse, in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
In a solemn statement released by Army Headquarters, the military expressed profound grief over the loss, describing the fallen personnel as “courageous soldiers” who paid the ultimate price in defense of national peace and security.
As part of the mourning directives, all Nigerian Army formations and units across the country have been ordered to fly the Army flag at half-mast during the three-day period.
“We pay our deepest respects to these fallen heroes and extend our heartfelt condolences to their families and loved ones. Their unwavering dedication, valor, and sacrifice in defense of our nation will forever be remembered and cherished,” the statement read.
Although the full circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be officially disclosed, security sources confirm the soldiers were involved in a counter-insurgency operation when they came under heavy attack by suspected armed groups operating in the region.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to rooting out insurgents and restoring peace to affected communities, assuring the public that the sacrifice of its personnel would not be in vain.
