The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has revealed plans by his administration to repatriate and empower indigenes of the state currently engaged in menial jobs outside Ebonyi.

Speaking during a Sunday church service at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki, Governor Nwifuru said the initiative is aimed at improving the lives of Ebonyians facing exploitation and poor remuneration in other parts of the country.
“We will bring back our people who are doing menial jobs in other cities and empower them since they are not even being appreciated by the people they are working for,” the Governor stated.
“After all, they are being exploited without commensurate remuneration. We are currently building warehouses and skills acquisition centres in our industrial city as part of measures to engage our youths meaningfully.”
The Governor also expressed concern over the performance of some political appointees, noting that a recent minor cabinet reshuffle was necessitated by underperformance in key areas.
“We are worried that the vision statement as contained in our People’s Charter of Needs has not been satisfactorily realized. That accounted for the minor reshuffle we did,” he said.
“Our mission and vision are explicit, and that was why the people voted us. However, we are still assessing them, and we shall do the needful if the need arises.”
Governor Nwifuru warned that those who fail to meet expectations within the grace period given to them may be relieved of their duties.
Addressing allegations of financial misconduct involving the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the Governor maintained that due process must be followed.
“I received the news of a publication which is already before the Federal High Court in Uyo about our Secretary to the State Government,” he said.
“She is presumed innocent until investigation reveals otherwise. I am a lawyer, and I know it is imperative to establish the facts before judgment to avoid setting wrong precedents.”
The Governor also called on prominent Ebonyians to ignore social media criticism and invest in the state, assuring them of a stable and business-friendly environment.
“I urge our leaders to come home and invest. The state is safe and open for business.”
