The Ebonyi State Government has celebrated one of its brightest sporting icons, Blessing Munachi Ejiofor, following her remarkable achievement of winning a historic fifth straight title at the African Women’s Basketball Tournament in Abidjan, Côte D’Ivoire.
During an expanded Executive Council Meeting held yesterday, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru described Ejiofor as a “worthy ambassador of Ebonyi State” whose resilience and dedication have placed the state on the global map.
In recognition of her outstanding accomplishments, the basketball star was officially inducted into the Ebonyi Hall of Fame as a Member, Ebonyi Hall of Fame (MEHF).
As part of the reward package, the state government announced a ₦30 million cash gift to Ejiofor and allocated a duplex in the ongoing Civil and Public Servants Estate located opposite Chiboy Motors.
Governor Nwifuru further acknowledged Ejiofor’s contribution to female empowerment through her Muna Foundation Girls Empowerment Camp. To support her call for grooming young Ebonyi talents in basketball, the government approved ₦50 million for the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development to construct a professional basketball court for the state’s young athletes.
“Her journey to greatness is an inspiration to every Ebonyi girl child,” the governor said, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to promoting a culture of rewarding excellence.
