The Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Gov. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru hhas moved to address key issues of governance and development during a special moment at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki. Speaking shortly before the conclusion of the Holy Mass, the Governor outlined three significant updates that reflect his administration’s drive for transformation, cultural pride, and economic revitalization.

Townhall Meeting on Capital City Expansion
The Governor announced a scheduled Townhall Meeting for Tuesday, July 1, with property owners, stakeholders, women, and youths. The meeting aims to deliberate on the expansion and remodelling of the Abakaliki Capital Territory, rooted in the original master plan of the city.
“We are building a capital that meets the dreams of our founding fathers,” the Governor said. “It is time to engage all stakeholders as we take the bold step to give our state capital a new face.”
The planned expansion is expected to promote urban renewal, improve infrastructure, and make the capital city more attractive for investment and living.

15-Member Committee for NIGERCEM Revival
In a decisive move to resuscitate the moribund NIGERCEM Cement Factory in Nkalagu, the Governor inaugurated a 15-member high-powered committee made up of respected sons and daughters of Ebonyi State. The committee is mandated to interface with Chief Cletus M. Ibeto, a key stakeholder in the cement industry, and proffer practical solutions to get the factory running again.
“This is not just another committee; it is a task force of action,” the Governor emphasized. “They have two weeks to return with tangible results.”

The NIGERCEM factory, once a thriving industrial hub, has long symbolized the potential for industrialization in Ebonyi. The Governor’s initiative rekindles hope for job creation and economic growth in the region.
N20 Million Support for Local Author, Obinna Udenwe
In a heartwarming development, the Governor praised Obinna Udenwe, a celebrated Ebonyi-born author, for using literature to promote the culture and values of the Abakaliki people. His new book, “Years of Shame”, has drawn commendation from across literary and political circles.
“I have read the book,” said the Governor. “It teaches sincerity and precision in decision-making. Obinna’s work reflects the importance of humility, listening to advice, and upholding our rich cultural heritage.”
In recognition of his outstanding contribution, the Ebonyi State Government will support Obinna Udenwe with a donation of ₦20 million.
This is one of the overwhelming projects undertaken by youthful Governor. In the past few days, it was reported that Governor Francis visited the abandoned 10 story building at the Presco junction where he ordered commencement of work after due evaluations were carried out on the abandoned multi billion project.
