The Nigerian Army has launched an immediate investigation following the circulation of a viral video showing personnel expressing dissatisfaction with the quality and quantity of food allegedly sent to them by higher authorities.

The video, which has been widely shared across social media and picked up by some mainstream media outlets, features soldiers displaying food items purportedly delivered to them by military command. While the authenticity and full context of the footage remain under scrutiny, the Nigerian Army has taken the matter seriously.
In response, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has directed a thorough probe into the incident. According to a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the investigation aims to establish the facts and ensure transparency. The outcome will be made public upon conclusion.
Lieutenant General Oluyede reaffirmed that troops’ welfare remains a top priority, in line with his leadership philosophy: “To Consolidate the Transformation of the Nigerian Army Towards Bequeathing a Well-motivated and Combat-Ready Force that can Effectively Discharge its Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment.”
This vision, he added, is reflected in the recently introduced “Soldier First” Concept, which emphasizes the well-being, dignity, and operational readiness of personnel, including care for their families.
The Army also urged personnel to use proper military channels to lodge complaints or express concerns, especially regarding welfare. Resorting to unauthorised or public platforms to air grievances, particularly on operational issues, is discouraged and deemed contrary to military ethics and discipline.
The Nigerian Army reassured the public and its personnel of its continued commitment to accountability, integrity, and the welfare of troops as it strives to fulfill its constitutional duties.
