
Abakaliki Football Club has won accolades for their outstanding performance in the just-concluded Presidential Cup, where they finished as runners-up after a hard-fought final match against Kwara United FC.


In a statement released via the Governor’s official Facebook page, Governor Francis Nwifuru expressed immense pride in the team’s performance, describing it as “exceptional” and “exceeding expectations.” The governor highlighted the team’s youthful energy and commendable sporting spirit as key factors that made their journey to the final a remarkable one.
“Given that they are a youthful team, their performances and sporting dispositions exceeded our expectations in the typical course of football affairs,” the governor noted. “We are genuinely proud of them.”
Governor Nwifuru also commended the club’s management, staff, supporters, and fan club for their contributions in flying the state’s flag high. He emphasized that their efforts have firmly established Ebonyi State as a rising force in Nigeria’s football scene.
Looking ahead, the governor encouraged the team to remain focused and committed, promising continued support from the state government. “As a state, we have expressed our gratitude to them as a symbol of our appreciation and motivation for their efforts,” he added.
