The Ebonyi State Government has reiterated its commitment to promoting economic growth, creating employment opportunities, and enhancing commercial convenience for citizens through key infrastructure like the Ebonyi Shopping Mall.
Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru disclosed this stating that he held a crucial meeting with managers and shop owners of the mall, alongside government officials, to address growing complaints from both tenants and citizens regarding poor management especially irregular electricity supply.
In response, the State Government has pledged to offset the outstanding electricity bill owed by the mall, in line with its agreement with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC). Furthermore, negotiations will commence with EEDC to restructure the mall’s monthly electricity billing to reflect the current economic realities.
Additionally, the government has assumed responsibility for the maintenance and repair of key mall infrastructure, including escalators, air conditioning units, and backup generators.
Following Governor Nwifuru’s on-site assessment, the State Government has terminated the contract of 3rd Retail Africa, the company previously managing the Ebonyi Shopping Mall. The Governor explained that the decision was taken in good faith and in the interest of the people of Ebonyi State.
Management of the facility has now been handed over to the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Shopping Mall Affairs.
Governor Nwifuru also confirmed that electricity supply to the mall has been fully restored
