Jonathan Reveals Yar’Adua’s Handover Letter Was Withheld by Presidential Aide

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has disclosed that during late President Yar’Adua’s illness in 2010, a top aide deliberately withheld a handover letter meant to empower him (Jonathan) as acting president. In a now-trending interview with Rainbow Book Club, Jonathan said Yar’Adua wrote the letter before leaving for medical treatment, but it was never submitted to the National Assembly—plunging Nigeria into a constitutional crisis and forcing lawmakers to invoke the “doctrine of necessity.”He explained how the power vacuum affected governance and revealed the political sensitivities that surrounded his rise to acting president.
